The Fibroids Project

Four years ago, Renee Brown, at the age of 28 was diagnosed with uterine fibroids. During her diagnosis and discussing treatment options with several doctors, before finding one she could trust, she took it upon herself to do more research. During this research she discovered outdated information which was sometimes contradictory. In a quest to have a place where women can share their stories, along with Nnamdi G. Osuagwu, she founded The Fibroids Project.

According to the National Uterine Fibroids Foundation:
Every 10 minutes, 12 hysterectomies are performed in the United States. According to a report published by Obstetrics and Gynecology, 9 of them probably didn’t meet the guidelines Read more [...]

White Meat Chasers: The Extremes of Interracial Dating

Once upon a time, there was a black woman who was fed up with the treatment she received from some black men she dated. For whatever reason, her relationships with these men never panned out. One day she reached her breaking point & vowed never to date black men again. She was on the hunt for her White knight in shining armor. She searched every interracial internet dating site like Afro-Romance.com, but also sites like J-Date (Jewish Date) because she was guaranteed that it would only be comprised of white (Jewish) men. There was no stopping her on her quest to find a white man. It didn’t matter that some of these men were just looking to experiment and have their antebellum experience. Read more [...]

Breaking News: Men, You Are Not God’s Gift To Women

Men, some of you have some shit going on with yall, which makes me believe that most single women should appreciate the fact that they are indeed single and don’t have to put up with it.  Sometimes I sit back and think about the type of parents (often times mainly women) who could have possibly raised some of the men that are out there.  Recently, some of the misogynistic views that I’ve heard from men, if I didn’t know any better, would lead me to believe that there is a generation of men out there who were raised by cave men.

Ironically, these are the same men who consider themselves to be a “prize” to women.  They are delusional enough to believe that any woman would/should be grateful Read more [...]

I Know Adults Who Need Sex Education, Not Only Kids in Helena Montana

….god forbid your child, who wasn’t properly educated about sex from you, heads to the internet. Imagine them coming across some of these  ’so-called’ sex blogging websites, and mistaking it for something out of Animal Kingdom hot muskrat monkey sex on a platter? Yeah, I’m sure that’ll be an even harder conversation to have.

Last week on Google chat, I had a short discussion with my buddy Jenee (aka JaneGoldenArms) about the Helena Montana Public School System proposed Sex education curriculum (jump to page 45-50 on the pdf file) and whether or not I agreed with the human sexuality curriculum. It seems as though a lot of people are up in arms because the curriculum starts at the kindergarten Read more [...]

Apparently Black Women Are Not Only Single, But Also Could Use A Good Douche

I have an email address that I pretty much  never check because it seems to only receive product press releases from public relation firms. Every once in a while I’ll come across a Press Release that piques my interest, but most of the time it’s a lot of garbage. Needless to say, I received a little bit of both this morning.
Here are a few lines from the email:
I’m hoping you can share Candace’s story to help empower other African-Americans who might have an embarrassing health condition so they can seek medical attention early. Candace is still not sure what is wrong so perhaps getting this story out might help her find the solution.
Heart disease?
Diabetes?
Obesity?
Hell, I figured I Read more [...]

If You Attempt To Rape A Woman In South Africa, You May Bite Off More Than You Can Chew

Here are a few  statistics about rape in South Africa:
One in three of the 4,000 women questioned by the Community of Information, Empowerment and Transparency said they had been raped in the past year.[9] More than 25 per cent of South African men questioned in a survey published by the Medical Research Council (MRC) in June 2009 admitted to raping someone; of those, nearly half said they had raped more than one person.
33% of South African women are raped.

25% of South African men admit to being rapists.

To combat the issue of rape in South Africa, Dr. Sonnet Ehlers invented the Rape-Ex condom for women. The woman would insert the condom and if by chance a man has vaginal sex with Read more [...]

In Defense of Slim Thug

Times must be hard when a rapper, that’s  only known as the guy who dated the 3rd most famous member of Destiny’s Child (Letoya Luckett), has to come out and voice his opinion against black women and offer dating/relationship advice.  I know nothing about this thug called Slim, which is quite inappropriate unless he’s been on a Slim Fast diet. In any event, after researching  Slim Thug, which took all of 3 minutes, I do have to come out in his defense.
Like most rappers, Slim Thug was boring in the early 80′s, 1980 to be precise. It’s best to assume the house or apartment Slim Thug was raised in was built anywhere from the 50′s to the 60′s, possibly even earlier than that. A commonality that Read more [...]

Lace Front Wigs: The Real Epidemic Affecting Black Women

I will be the first to admit, I’ve watched For The Love of  a Beaver  several times, maybe one too many times, but that’s besides the point. I always wondered why these women were willing to subject themselves to embarrassment for the love of a beaver who’s biggest claim to fame was getting his knob slobbed on by Kim Kardashian.  Sure Ray J may have had a few songs, and a few sitcom appearances, but no one was checking for his ass until the infamous homemade porno.
But I digress. This post isn’t about Ray J’s penis, but something a lot more serious, and an epidemic that is affecting black women every where.
FUCKED UP LACE FRONT WIGS!
Forget about this supposed “I’m A Single Black Woman Read more [...]

No Child Left Behind: Color Consciousness in Adopting

In 6th grade I had a very close friend named Parminder, I think we both got along because we were quiet and kept to ourselves. The one thing that always intrigued me about Parminder, was the contrast between her skin tone and hair. She had the blackest hair I had ever seen, and her skin was the color of copper. It was rare occurrence for Parminder and I to see each other outside of school, but one day she invited me over to her house. When I walked into her house, I expected to see parents that looked just like her, but I saw two very blond hair and blue eyed people and that’s when it dawned on me that Parminder was adopted. Being the nosey kid I was, when I asked her about it, she told me she Read more [...]

Mainstream Media, Please Stop Giving A Damn About My Singlehood

During a conversation this evening with HWSRN, I caught myself in the middle of our conversation stating, “I’d like to be in a relationship”, and his response was, “Well you get what you put out there”. I let that comment slide, because I didn’t feel like debating the “Why I’m single”, with someone who I’ve had such a back & forth history with because it would only end up in me hanging up on him. Sure, I’ve had my fair share of relationships that ended either amicably, or because an ex was a bat shit crazy sociopath because we just didn’t ‘mesh’, so I’ve pretty much have seen both ends of the spectrum when it comes to relationships.
But…..
I’m really tired of having the “Why Black Read more [...]

Single Women With Children, Stop Bringing Men Home To Meet Your Children

There are a few ground rules that I follow when it comes to dating and being a single parent.

I don’t bring dates home
I don’t let a date pick me up from my house.
If said date has children, I’m not interested in meeting them or even talking about them
If it goes from dating to a full blown relationship, I don’t introduce the man  to my son, until MONTHS (occasionally a year) later.

I’ve always been a private person when it comes to my personal life, even if someone happens to be a part of said personal life. It can be difficult when it comes to dating, partially because I am raising a child on my own. I always make sure to point out my rules to any potential man that I date, Read more [...]
